When you see your friend on Japanese TV

I was watching TV whilst in Kofu at my Couchsurfing host’s apartment, as we were preparing dinner.

The show we were watching was called Tokyo Guide Map. The hosts of the show approach foreigners on the streets of Tokyo and ask them what they’re doing, where they’re going, etc. Sometimes the hosts ask to tag along with the tourists, for example if they’re on their way to a cooking class or the Tsukiji fish market.

Though most of the tourists were speaking English, it was almost muted with Japanese translations over the top, so I couldn’t really follow it too well, I was just watching but not really focusing, half hopeful I would see myself in the background or something as I could tell it was taken around new years eve.

Then, out of nowhere a Canadian (He actually works in Dubai, hence the flag, but is Canadian) friend I had met only a week earlier was suddenly on the screen! He was being interviewed at a cafe in Tokyo! Again I couldn’t quite hear what he was saying, but I quickly pulled out my phone and snapped a couple of photos and posted them to him on facebook.

It was the first time I had watched any Japanese TV and it was funny by coincidence that someone I knew was on it!
