The last two months I’ve done a little traveling to other areas of Japan in my time off. Its also been really busy as now is peak holiday season (Obon) and there are many town festivals (Omatsuri).
On 15th June my friend Aya and I visited Kanagawa Prefecture. We went to Fujisawa, Kamakura and Enoshima. Aya went to university in Kanagawa so we visited some of here friends there, and I had a swim in the ocean for the first time since Christmas Day in Australia – it was amazing.
On 20th July My friend Gusti (from Bali) and I visited Fukiware Falls, near the border of Gunma and Tochigi Prefectures. Some photos below.
Then on July 21st, Mike and Shailesh (a couple of Bungy friends) and I went to Niigata Prefecture for a day trip, to Sasakawa nagare beach.
On 27th July Aya and I went to Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture. Izu is famous for its beaches, Shirahama and Shimoda and many more. Unfortunately it was mostly cloudy and rainy but it was still nice to visit another new area of Japan, where we tried snorkeling.
Then on 3rd August we went to Niigata again, this time to Nagaoka to watch one of Japans top 3 fireworks festivals. I went in thinking fireworks were overrated, but this was something completely surprising, without a doubt the best fireworks display I have ever seen.
And of course there’s Minakami Matsui and general good times in Minakami here and there as well!
